Passive Voice

Passive voice sentence structure:

Object → Verb

Object → Verb → Subject

Most style guides tell us to avoid passive voice, which is generally fine but passive isn’t inherently bad. It all depends on whether you want to emphasize the subject or the object.

Active: Government approved the policy.

Passive: The policy was approved.

Tip: Use passive voice on purpose, like when you want to highlight the object.
